 Family Services
in Butler County Children's Center Head Start

Family Service staff complete the intake packet to enroll new children. Each family is encouraged to meet with their family service worker during the year to build on the strengths and set goals to improve their family's quality of life.

Head Start and Early Head Start take a "hands-on" approach by providing you with the unique opportunity to become involved in your child's education from the very beginning.

  • Our program depends on parents being involved both in and out of the classroom. We acknowledge our parents as partners in providing educational experiences for your children.
  • Volunteering in the Head Start classroom is important for your child and other children too. Help at the art table, help at block area, reading to children, help at meal times- all are ways parents can help out.
  • We provide you with monthly "at home" activity calendars that you and your child can complete together.
  • You have the opportunity to become part of the Parent Committee for the classroom and/or Early Head Start Program. Through the parent committee, you can be elected to serve on Policy Council and other committees.

Parent Trainings are offered various times throughout the year. Topics like Kindergarten Readiness, Healthy Children, Discipline, and Budgeting are offered in a casual setting. Snacks and babysitting are provided.

Join the FITT Committee (Family Involvement Together Time) This group plans family activities like movie night, rain gutter regatta, culture day, as well as our male involvement activities like kite flying, fishing, and bird house building!

Our classroom
program offers limited trasnsportation to and from school. We are unable to provide door to door service, but we get as close as possible to each family. Families needing transportation to meetings and trainings can talk to their family service worker to arrange this service. Traansportation to Home Base Center Days and Early Head Start play groups can be arranged by talking to your Parent Educator.

 Education

The goal of Head Start is to help children gain the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in their early years, and later in school and in life. Head Start’s Education and Early Childhood Development Services offer children a wide range of learning experiences using strategies such as experimentation, inquiry, observation, play and exploration. Through a balanced daily program of child initiated and adult directed activities, children develop trust, independence, self control and respect for themselves and others as they play with and learn from a wide variety of developmentally appropriate educational materials. Each child has a written plan that is developed by the teacher and the parent, and is based on ongoing observation of each child’s progress over time. The Head Start program recognizes that children have individual rates of development as well as individual interests, temperaments, languages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles.  Head Start is inclusive of children with disabilities and provides services that are consistent with their Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) or Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

 Health Services

Health is a state of complete mental, physical, and social well-being. The health program is therefore designed to stimulate health awareness and to ensure each child has a medical home.
